Description
Lewmar continues to define rope clutch technology with a handle that prevents rope fraying. Unlike anything else on the market, Lewmar's single-curve brake features a series of smooth, and parallel bushings that articulate to the base. The rope passes through these bushings, which are then tilted by a single linkage lever. When they tilt, the rings force the line through them, creating the friction necessary to hold the rope securely. When they are allowed to return to their previous configuration (the clutch is released), the line straightens out and can be slackened without worry if released gradually.
This revolutionary new system has been repeatedly tested by independent operators and has won awards for its innovative framework.
Lewmar's brake is an innovative approach to the rope restraint function. Instead of blocking the rope (top), Lewmar's Domino mechanism bends it (bottom) for better traction and less wear.
When choosing a brake, it is best to choose the size with an upper rope gauge close to the size of the line you will be belaying. This will ensure maximum deflection as the lever bends the rope.
